South Swell

It seems like we wait for an eternity for the summer south swells to reach our shores, bringing with them warmer waters and swell lines to the horizon. Over the past few weeks we’ve been sampling a taste of So Cal’s sweet summer offerings, with the first south swells of the season showing up full force. Under the May grey I’ve managed to sneak out and capture the moments of wave hungry surfers. Just last week I found myself heading North of San Diego running away from closeouts and in search of sneaky corners. I found some great waves with awesome friends ……. here’s a few shots from my swell chasing adventures below.

Surf Moms visit Ventura

This past weekend I was fortunate to be invited to join a badass group of Surf Moms -Escaping their kids and taking some time out of their daily grind to enjoy each others company, catch some waves and have a good laugh along the way. As always, camera in hand I was there to capture the best (and worst moments). Here’s some of my favorite images from the weekend for you to enjoy. We’ve been super excited since our local street was newly paved last week and is the ultimate skate heaven for us girls. The afternoon waves were a little mixed up with a strong onshore – so we grabbed the boards and cruised Neptune to shoot the anticipated HerWaves ‘Rolling Single’ Tank. Surfing Swamis with Devon DeMint

One of the true perks of my work is meeting incredible people like Devon DeMint. She’s a Leucadia local, absolute shredder, skateboarder, inspirational writer and rad mom to two little beach bums. You’d be hard pushed to meet someone with as much stoke and bigger smile than this little lady – plus, she’s got talent to match. As one of my favorite surfers to photograph, I was stoked to head to Swamis a few days ago

Known as @mermaidsightings on instagram, Devon has a follow worthy page and wonderful website www.taleofamermaid.com. She’s also the driving force behind this incredible ladies skate group www.sheskateshere.com (@sheskateshere). If you don’t already, you should go and follow her RIGHT NOW! Keep your eyes peeled for this mermaid at her local spot – North Reef Beacons.

Shooting for Her Waves – Surf inspired clothing designed for women by women

With the past couple months bringing less than exciting swell and keeping us photographers dodging rain showers, many emails have been appearing in my inbox asking for all kinds of ‘other’ photography. Usually I’ve got weeks of surf photo shoots scheduled in my diary, and am up to my eyeballs in edits for wave hungry surfers. This little bit of unusual downtime for me has been super exciting and allowed me to branch out from my daily norm and embark on exciting projects with incredible people.

I first met Jennipher founder of Her Waves through my surf photography not too long after I’d started out. I snapped a few pics of her surfing at Beacons and she’s always frequently turned up to shoots and collected some amazing shots of herself surfing. She approached me to help with photos for her awesome start up brand ‘Her Waves’ that she needed for her website, social media. I love new and exciting projects and especially with companies that rally resonate with my core values. It’s been so awesome to work with her on this fun project, and I’m excited for many more to come.

Many of you may have seen my recent model search post. I was totally overwhelmed with your support. Over 250 people reached out to help and I’ve been stoked to be able to include so many of you in some fun projects over the coming month – THANK YOU ALL!!!

WANTED – MODELS FOR AWESOME LIFESTYLE SHOOT IN ENCINITAS

We’re currently searching for some friendly female faces to join us for some lifestyle/beach/surf/skate photos in Encinitas. If want to get some beautiful, professional photos of yourself to spruce top you social media and help us get some unique images for an upcoming project – we’d love to hear from you.

Here’s a little idea of what we’re looking for:

• Female aged between 18 -35
• Have a beach/surfy/skate/outdoorsy vibe
• Love working with other awesome ladies as part of an all female team
• Are comfortable in front of the camera
• Skate or Surf to a basic level (not required but desirable)
• Relaxed, easygoing shoot – no bikinis or butt shots
• No modeling experience required – but if you do have some, awesome!
• Available in the Encinitas area

Surfgirl Magazine Feature

I have a wonderful group of surf amigas locally who I am fortunate to be able to surf with and take pictures of daily. A couple of months ago they had a little feature in Surf Girl magazine and I was stoked to be their photographer for a fun (if not slightly overcast) morning at Oceanside Harbor.
